Electricity Market

Electricity Committee

The EFET electricity committee, chaired by Jérôme Le Page, and the Task Forces and Working Groups which support it, deal with all issues related to electricity market functioning and design.

We see efficient and well-functioning electricity markets as key for all three aspects of the energy trilemma:

  • They enhance security of supply by signalling where and when resources are required and allocating them efficiently.
  • They support competitiveness by putting downward pressure on prices.
  • And they support decarbonisation by providing strong incentives to innovate and signalling the value of investments in certain technologies.

Among other things, the EFET electricity committee strives to ensure that:

  • Markets across Europe are open and competitive – in all timeframes, from forward markets to balancing.
  • That market players have a choice about where to do business.
  • That prices reflect supply and demand and enable efficient decision making.
  • That accurate information is freely available.
  • That cross border capacity is maximised and TSOs act as neutral facilitators.

A series of Working Groups and Task Forces support the work of within the Electricity Committee.  These are:

  • Working Groups on Balancing, Capacity Calculation and Intraday Markets.
  • Task Forces on Renewables and Emissions Trading.

As well as considering issues at the European level, we believe one of our strengths is that we are also active in National and Regional markets via our Task Forces covering:

  • France;
  • Germany;
  • Italy;
  • Iberia;
  • Central and South Eastern Europe; and
  • Switzerland
