Market Supervision Committee

The Market Supervision Committee (MSC) foresees the development of open, transparent, liquid and sustainable wholesale energy markets and related derivatives markets throughout Europe. We analyse regulatory proposals and advocate policies and measures which fulfil these objectives without imposing an unnecessary regulatory burden on wholesale energy market participants. We encourage probity, good risk management practices, responsible corporate governance, and proper accounting among energy traders for the purpose of enhancing these markets’ integrity and transparency.

We participate in the regulatory process by engaging in dialogue with policy-makers, representatives of energy and financial regulatory authorities and other stakeholders on the EU and the national level. Our key areas of expertise include the recast Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID II), the European Market Infrastructure Regulation (EMIR), the Market Abuse Directive and the Market Abuse Regulation (MAD/MAR), and the Regulation on Wholesale Energy Market Integrity and Transparency (REMIT).

The activities of the MSC are supported by a number of legislation or topic-specific Working Groups (WGs).
